Burmese and expat activists hold charities, donations and protests to celebrate Aung San Suu Kyi's 77th birthday
On the evening of June 18, Myanmar pro-democracy activists in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia held Aung San Suu Kyi's 77th birthday celebration and a prayer ceremony for the release of all political prisoners in Maryland. Aung San Suu Kyi's close cousin, former Prime Minister of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Myanmar (NCGUB) Dr. San Win, and the ASEAN representative of the National Unity Government (NUG) U Boradin also attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
In addition, foreign Myanmar activists also held almsgiving, donation activities and prayer ceremonies for Aung San Suu Kyi's birthday at Beaconsfield Park in Vancouver, Canada and a monastery in Breda, the Netherlands. Among them, Australia, South Korea, Japan and Thailand also held prayers for the release of all political prisoners of different religious beliefs.
On June 19, the birthday of Aung San Suu Kyi, people in Yangon Province, Kachin State, Pagan, Shan State and other places held prayers for Aung San Suu Kyi's 77th birthday and supported the National Unity Government (NUG) and overthrown it. Protests against the military dictatorship. Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also posted a prayer on his personal social network "Congratulations to Aung San Suu Kyi on her 77th birthday, healthy body and mind".
A prominent Burmese political leader said, “Asean leaders are divided on Burma and should value and oppose the unjust imprisonment of Aung San Suu Kyi by the Burmese army, which we note is an unjust accusation and the leader’s importance".
