British embassy officials in Myanmar forced to leave Myanmar by Burmese army
On July 13, Pete Vowles, the head of the British embassy in Myanmar, tweeted that he would be leaving the country.
He tweeted: "My time in Myanmar came to an abrupt end today. Sad and regretful to be forced to leave by the Tatmadaw regime, but glad we did not succumb to pressure to legitimize their brutal coup. I know the good, capable and determined team will continue to stand up for the people of Myanmar and do their best. The team will continue to stand up and do what they can for the people of Myanmar who only want peace, freedom and justice.
Peter Walls' appointment as the new British ambassador to Myanmar in July 2017 was delayed without formally handing over the appointment to Myanmar military regime leader Min Aung Hlaing. In August 2018, he was again appointed by the British government as head of the British Embassy in Myanmar. After he left Myanmar for an overseas trip in February 2022, he has been denied entry by the Myanmar military regime. The Myanmar military regime did not grant him a visa until the end of June. The reason for his sudden departure from Burma remains unknown, and the Burmese military regime has not released any news about Peter Walls' departure.
