Myanmar army finds unexploded torpedo after military exercise in waters off Rakhine State

On the morning of July 13, the Myanmar army found an unexploded torpedo on the beach in Manan town after conducting military exercises in the waters off the coast of Rakhine State.

A monk at a local monastery said, "Yes, people found the torpedo as they passed by the beach. It was nine feet long and about three feet in diameter. The local residents were afraid of the danger and notified the Tatmadaw and police forces that they had arrived. The scene later said there was no danger, just a training bullet, and attempted to defuse the torpedo that day."

It is understood that the Myanmar military regime will conduct military exercises including battleship submarines, combat submarines, frigates, helicopters and other military exercises in the waters off the coast of Rakhine State from July 1 to 5. On July 5, Myanmar army leader Min Aung Hlaing and the leaders of land, sea and air went to the waters of Rakhine State to visit the joint naval exercise.

On July 4, the day before Min Aung Hlaing went to the waters of Rakhine State, two fighter jets of the Myanmar Army bombed the Arakan Army (AA) camp on the Thai-Myanmar border without fighting, causing AA6 One member was killed and many were injured. In response to this matter, U Peidan, a councillor of Myepong Township, said that the bombing of the AA camp on the Thai-Myanmar border during the naval exercise was just a coincidence, and there was no direct relationship between the two. Although a temporary ceasefire agreement was reached between the Burmese army and AA in November 2020, there are currently unprovoked air strikes on the AA camp, resulting in increasing tension between the two armies.
